Why AI Doesn't Mention Your Brand: A Free 30-Minute Test

Why doesn't ChatGPT mention your brand? Usually because it can't find you, it doesn't understand what you do, or it sees other brands in more places than yours. There are eight common reasons, and you can find yours in about 30 minutes. It's free: ask AI five questions and check whether it names you.
Below you'll find the eight reasons, how to check each one, and what to fix first. You can do it by hand, or let Bloomiro run the checks on a free 3-day trial and show you which reason applies to you.
These are the eight most common reasons:
It can't reach your website.
It doesn't understand what your company does.
You're not on the sites it reads, like Reddit, YouTube and review sites.
A competitor has a page that you don't.
The answer is hard to find on your page.
Your information is different in different places.
It doesn't know your name yet.
You're new, and this takes time.
Not sure which one is yours? The test below shows you.
Ask AI the questions your customers would ask, then see if your brand shows up. It takes three steps.
One answer proves nothing, because AI answers change every time. Use these five types of question:
A "best" question: "best [what you sell] for [who you sell to]".
A competitor question: "[big competitor] alternatives".
A problem question, written the way a customer describes the problem before they know your product exists.
A question about you: "what is [your brand]" and "is [your brand] good".
A price question: "how much does [what you sell] cost".
The easy way: use Bloomiro, free for 3 days. Doing 15 checks by hand is slow, and it's easy to fool yourself. Bloomiro does it for you. The trial needs no credit card.
Sign up and add your website.
Add your five questions.
Run them on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overview.
Read the results. For each answer, you see whether you were named, which competitors were named instead, and which websites the AI used, including Reddit and YouTube. For ChatGPT, you also see the searches it ran before it answered.
Open your tasks. The gaps become a short to-do list, in order of what to fix first.
Three days is enough to see where you stand and get a to-do list. It's not long enough to show change over time. That comes later.
By hand: Ask each question in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google. Use a private window. Ask each question three times, because the answer changes. For every answer, write down three things: did it name you, did it link to your website, and which other brands did it name?
"Named" means your brand's name is in the answer. "Linked" means your website is shown as a source. You can get one without the other. We explain the difference in our guide to AI visibility metrics.
If AI names you in most answers, you're fine. If it names you in some, note which questions, because the pattern matters more than the count. If it names you in almost none, move on to the reasons below. Write your results down first. It's easy to remember the answer you wanted instead of the one you got.
Check them in order. The first ones are the quickest to test. Where Bloomiro makes the check faster, there's a note.
Check: Open yourdomain.com/robots.txt. Look for lines that block GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot. Also make sure your page text is in the page itself and not loaded later by JavaScript. Google's AI answers only use pages that are in Google's index.
Fix: Let the search crawlers in. GPTBot is OpenAI's training crawler. OAI-SearchBot is the one that lets ChatGPT search show your pages. Blocking the first is a choice. Blocking the second hides you from ChatGPT search. Our list of which AI crawlers to allow has the rest.
In Bloomiro: a site scan flags blocked crawlers and robots.txt problems. For one page, our free readiness checker does it in a few seconds.
Check: Ask each AI "what is [your brand]?" A wrong answer, an old answer, or "I don't have information" means it doesn't know.
Fix: Say what you do in one plain sentence, and use the same sentence everywhere: your homepage, About page, LinkedIn and directory listings. Add Organization schema with your name, website, logo and profile links. Plain beats clever. "The operating system for modern growth" tells AI nothing.
In Bloomiro: your "what is [brand]" question shows how each AI describes you, side by side.
Check: Look at the websites AI used in your results. How many are your own site, YouTube, Reddit, review sites, or "best of" lists? If you're on none of them, this is the problem. In the AI answers we track, YouTube is about 27% of all sources and Reddit about 9%. Company websites are a small slice.
Fix: Pick one outside place a month. Give a useful answer in a Reddit thread about your topic, without selling. Make a short YouTube video that answers a question customers ask. Add a profile on the review site your industry uses. Don't spam. People notice, and you'll get banned. Read more about where AI answers get their sources.
In Bloomiro: Community Sources lists the Reddit, YouTube, Quora and review pages used for your questions, so you can see where you're missing.
Check: Ask "[competitor] alternatives" and "[competitor] vs [your brand]". If the answers use comparison pages and you have none, that's the gap. Also watch for the same two or three competitors showing up every time.
Fix: Write one honest comparison page for the competitor customers mention most. Show real prices, say who each option is best for, and say who should not choose you. AI likes tables and clear trade-offs. To see which competitors get named and why, read why ChatGPT recommends your competitors.
In Bloomiro: add your competitors once, and every question shows who was named instead of you.
Check: Open the page that should answer the question. Is the answer in the first two sentences, or after three paragraphs of backstory? Do your headings sound like real customer questions?
Fix: Put the answer first. Turn headings into questions. Add a short FAQ. Cut the long intro. For how AI picks what to quote, see how AI search engines decide what to cite.
In Bloomiro: page analysis flags structure and clarity problems on the page that should be winning.
Check: Ask "how much does [your brand] cost?" and "who is [your brand] for?" Compare the answers to the truth. Look for old prices, old product names, and different descriptions on different sites.
Fix: When sources disagree, AI either hedges or picks the loudest one, which is rarely the newest. Keep one page with the facts: what you do, who it's for, what it costs. Fix old listings you control and ask others to fix theirs. Put dates on your pages.
In Bloomiro: every answer is saved in full, so you can compare it with your real price and description.
Check: Before ChatGPT searches the web, it already has some brand names in mind. In our data, it searched on all 20 of the questions we looked at, but often wrote brand names into its own searches. If your name isn't one of them, it never goes looking for you.
Fix: There's no quick fix. What helps is being mentioned again and again in trusted places, over months. That's what reasons 2 and 3 are for. Read more in how ChatGPT chooses brands before it searches.
In Bloomiro: you can see the searches ChatGPT ran for each answer, so you can see which names it looked for.
If your company is about a year old, with a young website and few mentions elsewhere, part of this is simply waiting. Perplexity often reacts first. ChatGPT and Google's AI usually take longer. That's not a reason to do nothing. It's a reason to check once a month, not every day.
In Bloomiro: scheduled runs re-check the same questions on a set schedule, so you see change without redoing the test.
Find what you saw, and start with the fix next to it. It's a good first guess, not a final answer.
AI never names you or links to you. It probably can't reach your site, or doesn't know what you do. Check your robots.txt, then ask "what is [your brand]?" (reasons 1 and 2)
AI only names you when you type your brand name. It knows you exist, but you're not on the sites it reads. Look at which sources it uses, and see where your competitors appear. (reasons 3 and 4)
The same competitors show up every time. They have comparison pages and more mentions around the web. Write one honest comparison page. (reasons 4 and 7)
AI links to you but doesn't name you. It uses your page, but the answer is buried or your facts don't match elsewhere. Put the answer in the first two sentences, and keep one page with the facts. (reasons 5 and 6)
Perplexity names you but ChatGPT doesn't. This is common for newer brands, because ChatGPT is slower to change. Keep earning mentions and check once a month. (reasons 7 and 8)
AI describes you wrong, or gets your price wrong. Your information doesn't match across the web. Write one plain description and fix old listings. (reasons 2 and 6)
Yes. Bloomiro has an MCP server. It connects your site to Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT and other AI tools, so you can ask in plain English. Once it's connected, try:
"Which of my tracked questions don't name us, and which competitors do?"
"Which of the eight reasons is most likely for our site, and what should I fix first?"
"Which Reddit and YouTube pages get used for our topic?"
You connect with a sign-in or an API key. MCP is included on every plan and on the free trial. It isn't an add-on. The setup is on our MCP page, and we wrote a short guide to using Bloomiro in the AI you already use. If you publish through the Bloomiro CMS, it can also draft the fix for you to review.
The test is free. The trial gives you the full product for 3 days, with no credit card. That's enough to see where you stand, find your reasons, and get a to-do list.
A short trial can't keep watching for you. Fixes take weeks to show up. If you want your questions re-checked on a schedule, more questions, and help working through the tasks, that's a subscription. Plans start at $49 a month, and MCP is on every plan. If you'd rather keep going by hand in a spreadsheet, everything above still works.
Try it yourself first. Most fixes are free and take a few hours each. Hire help if reasons 3 or 4 need more time than you have, or if you've fixed what you can and nothing has changed after a few months. Be careful with anyone who promises a spot in AI answers, because nobody controls that. Our piece on hiring help for AI brand answers covers what to ask.
Ask your five questions and write down the results, by hand or in Bloomiro (15 minutes).
Check your robots.txt and ask each AI what your brand is (10 minutes).
Fix the easiest reason you found. It's usually 1, 2 or 5.
Pick one outside place and one comparison page for next month.
Ask the same five questions again in 30 days, in the same tools. If you change the questions, you can't compare.

Yes. By hand, ask five customer questions in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google, and note whether you're named or linked. Or start Bloomiro's free 3-day trial. It needs no credit card, runs the same questions on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overview, and shows who was named, who was cited and what to fix.
Usually because they appear on the sites ChatGPT reads, or in what it already believes about your industry, and you don't. That points to reasons 3, 4 and 7 above.
There's no fixed time. Perplexity can react sooner because it searches the live web. ChatGPT and Google's AI usually take longer and depend more on mentions on other sites. Check once a month, using the same questions each time.
A mention is your brand's name in the answer. A citation is your website shown as a source. You can have one without the other, and a mention is closer to being recommended.
Not by itself. It helps with Google's AI answers, because they use Google's index. But a page that ranks can still go unnamed, and ChatGPT and Perplexity find pages their own way.
Yes. Bloomiro's MCP server connects your site to those tools, so you can ask which questions don't name you and what to fix first. MCP is included on every plan and on the free trial.
Not in the normal answers of ChatGPT or Perplexity, as far as we know. Be careful with anyone who promises a spot. You can make your site easy to read, describe yourself clearly, and earn mentions on sites the AI already trusts.
Start with a free homepage check, then connect your site in Bloomiro to track AI mentions, compare competitors, and track actions in Action Center that your team can ship.
